Vietnam stretches over 1,800 kilometers from north to south, with an area of 332,000 square kilometers. Vietnam’s topography varies, from coastal plains to mountain ranges. Therefore, weather patterns in the principal cities are very different. In north part, winter lasts from November to April with temperatures averaging 10°C to 16°C, with fog and drizzle between January-March.
Summer begins in May and lasts until October, with an average temperature of 30°C with heavy rainfall and the occasional violent typhoon. Central Vietnam experiences a transitional climate, with heavy rainfall between November and December, and dry, hot summer months. Typhoons are quite common in coastal areas between July and November.
In south part, temperatures are fairly constant through the year, about 25°C - 30°C. Seasons are determined by the rains. The dry season runs from November to April and the wet season from May to October. The hottest period is in March and April. In highland areas, such as in the hill resorts of Dalat (1,500 meters), Buon Me Thuot and Sapa, nights are cool throughout the year.
In the winter months, October to March, it can be distinctly chilly with temperatures falling to 0°C. Even in the hottest months of March and April, the temperature rarely exceeds 26°C.
Mobile / communication information
The major cell phone carriers are Mobile Phone, Vina Phone, Viettel, S-Phone, and ETelephone. Vina Phone and Viettel are the best service providers with large coverage throughout Vietnam with the best quality. You can purchase a SIM card in many stores and buy time at even more. Prices vary. You must have your phone unlocked before an international (Vietnam) SIM card is inserted in your phone. If you have gotten a phone on contract with your local provider at home, chances are your phone will not be unlocked.
For people with wheelchairs, Indochina Explore Tours will need to consider some special care, especially with transportation. Some of the sites are not well-suited for wheelchairs. Normally, Indochina Explore Tours considers arranging private transport, and at some sites a porter. Please contact the travel consultants for more detailed information. Indochina Explore Tours has had some experience with the elderly, and those in wheelchairs. With a little creativity, those trips have been great, not missing a thing!
Lightweight and quick dry clothing is most appropriate for the summer months, and warmer clothing for the winter months. As well, sun hat, swim suit, ultra lightweight rain jacket. Please always dress appropriately. Not only for the Vietnam climate, but also to not cause offense to the local people. Vietnamese (and many tourist sites) have conservative dress codes. It is only in larger cities, like Saigon that these codes are relaxed a little.

All of the tour guides are well trained and have been briefed in what to do in an emergency. When necessary, Indochina Explore Tours will be taking extra resources such as porter, emergency provisions, and extra equipment. Further, all of guests will be briefed before the trip of any dangers. When a situation occurs where there is danger, you will be warned, and the safest option will be used.
Additionally, do drink plenty of bottled water. During the summer months you should be drinking a minimum of two liters per day. If you drink tea, coffee, or alcohol you should increase your water intake accordingly as these will dehydrate you. Indochina Explore Tours recommends that you carry a small personal first aid kit as well as any personal medications you may require.

You can create your own date for the holiday. You only need to choose the dates that you want to travel and as long as you are happy to open the tour to other people who want to join, Indochina Explore Tours will charge you the standard tour price, without markups. There are some conditions for this option. Firstly, you must have booked and paid your deposit for travel dates that are at least one to three months in the future. This just gives Indochina Explore Tours time to promote the trip and find other people to join you.
Secondly, create your own date option applies for bookings of two or more people only. If you are a solo traveler, Indochina Explore Tours will do their best to get a group for the dates you choose but they cannot guarantee standard pricing until we achieve a minimum of two people. Next, this offer is subject to availability. In peak season, they may not have the capability to add tour dates to the already busy schedule.
Before venturing out from your hotel, make sure you do have a hotel business card with you. This will make your return to the hotel in a taxi or cyclo much easier! For longer excursions from your hotel, it is always a good idea to carry a roll of toilet paper in your pack or purse. You never know when you will need it. Always leave your excess cash, airline tickets, passports and valuables in the hotel’s safety deposit box.
Always be aware when entering someone’s home as at some homes you must please remove your shoes at the front door. Please always ask permission first when taking a photograph of someone. If they indicate that they do not want you to, then abide by their wishes. Please do not push the issue or offer money. Furthermore, there are some times when you shouldn’t even ask.
